For the most part, I have been a loose cannon commenter in the past, jumping from blog to blog, adding comments where I can. Since there is thousands of blogs out there, I only commented on the same blog twice by chance. But there is something to be said about building a circuit of blogs to comment on, especially if your blog is in a specific niche.
Am I going to talk about DoFollow in the this post. Only a bit. DoFollow helps, as does Top Commenters, Recent Comments, KeywordLuv and CommentLuv. And one of my favorite tools is Fast Blog Finder. But you can focus too much on that. And everybody and his brother is.
That being said, I have started to build a list of blogs to comment on, related to this blog. The tools I used were Fast Blog Finder, the Entrecard toolbar and the Diigo toolbar.
Every time I write a post here I do a search in Fast Blog Finder using keywords related to my post. If when I get to the blog, the rest of the posts fit my blog, I drag the tab to the “comments” filter button on Diigo. Diigo has a toolbar that allows you to add tag based buttons to it to access bookmarks quickly.
I also use the Entrecard toolbar to find related blogs in the Internet Marketing or Make Money Online. And if I like the blog, I drag the tab to the same “comments” button.
Over time this list will grow and the bloggers will begin to recognize me, because I come back often. Entrecard users will notice that I drop cards and comment, a rarity for many Entrecard users. Both of these methods may get me better links than the initial comments did. I do have some good, solid content here. And if they are new to my blog, they may link back to me from a post or two. And links from inside a post beat comment links or sidebar links any day. So yes, DoFollow is great but to be followed is better.
Being random with your comments may spread links to more domains, but regular commenting on a list of blogs let’s people know who you are and that you’re here for the long haul. Well, at least, I am going to see how it works out.
